Becksford are looking for a Data Scientist to join the football analytics team as a part of the wider sports analytics business - covering cricket, rugby, tennis and football. The successful Data Scientist will have the latest and richest football data at their disposal and have full autonomy and ownership to design, prototype and implement new Data Scientist approaches to analyse the game. You need to be a Data Scientist passionate about football and analysing sporting data in order to tell the stories behind sporting performances that are currently missing in today's game. This is a remote Data Scientist role with travel to the offices by The Oval cricket ground for team meetings - start ASAP.


The Role

  • Work with analysts across other sports to develop new approaches to analysing football and deepen understanding of the game
  • Use Analytical expertise and sporting knowledge to analyse football player tracking data and develop new models that help solve complex problems and generate new insights
  • Full autonomy - ideas and approaches to projects in order to meet the clients needs. Clients include broadcasters and rights holders to professional teams
  • Communicating and rolling out new products and content
  • Optimise processes of working with new datasets and remaining the leader in the sport data industry
  • Work with other parts of the business - including cricket, tennis and rugby



  • Machine learning + stastical methods (Linear/logistical regression, decision trees, random forest, unsupervised methods, neural networks etc.)
  • Experienced in PyData stack (pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, XGBoost, matplotlib etc.)
  • Experienced in databases SQL + NoSQL
  • Strong interest in football and experienced in tracking or event data
