Job title: Head of Engineering

Location: Berlin (Hybrid working model)

Salary: €90 - €110k DOE

I'm exclusively partnered with an IoT solutions provider that has a brand new requirement for a Head of Engineering to join the team. They are looking to centralize and structure the engineering department. You will bring servant leadership to the engineering organization while being aware that your goal is to help everyone thrive in their careers.

Lastly, you will take ownership of the upcoming engineering initiatives in collaboration with the leadership team.

What you will be doing:

• Oversee the development of both internal platforms, in collaboration with the Lead Software Engineers.
• Manage a remote-friendly team of engineers (15+), using modern management practices.
• Work upon the team's health by guarding its happiness and performance.
• Drive the recruitment of full-time and freelance engineers.
• Own and improve the onboarding process.
• Design and standardize career paths in software engineering.
• Design strategies for future projects in collaboration with the technical leadership team.
• Manage software engineering initiatives by setting non-technical requirements, goals, and timelines.
• Prepare and manage the engineering department’s budget.
• Work alongside the product squad to nurture the relationship with external stakeholders.
• Collaborate closely with the Agile Coach to improve the team's throughput.
• Ensure compliance with security regulations.
• Directly report project progress, team health & satisfaction to the Managing Director.

Skills you will need:

• You have a proven track record in engineering management.
• Excellent communication skills in English, German is a big plus.
• Hands-on experience with modern management concepts, i.e. 1on1's, 360* reviews, retrospectives
• You have leadership abilities with an empathic and strategic mindset.
• Excellent professional project management skills.
• Good understanding of agile methodologies.
• Extensive experience with Cloud technologies and modern human-computer interfaces
• Hands-on experience in back-end and front-end development.

It's beneficial if you have:

• Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems and/or IoT systems.
• Good understanding of DevOps.
• Understanding of messaging technologies such as Kafka, ActiveMQ, MQTT.
• Deep understanding of efficient database design and handling big data sets (InfluxDB, PostgreSQL).
• Deep understanding of designing maintainable and high-performing backend code (Java, Kotlin, Spring Boot).
• Deep understanding of designing maintainable and high-performing frontend code (React, TypeScript, Material UI).
