Lead Engineer (Ruby)


A HealthTech focused company are currently looking for a Lead Engineer with a well-rounded knowledge of Ruby and Ruby on Rails to join their tech department where you will Lead a team in planning, creating and deploying projects aligning with their current product calendar. You will be involved in delivering roadmaps of desired features and optimisations whilst also identifying relevant technologies and approaches in building products to meet the needs of service users and the business. They typically operate with a blame-free culture, often working in Agile (Kanban) keeping the workload simple. They’re a non-profit with their overall mission being to be a company who offers a positive impact on society.


A successful Lead Ruby developer will:

  • Translate user needs into roadmaps delivering desirable user experiences
  • Architect, develop and maintain their services
  • Work directly with the product team
  • Mentor team members in improving technical skills
  • Collaborate with other lead engineers
  • Oversee end to end development of features
  • Continuously practice TDD
  • Spearhead recruitment efforts
  • Lead progressive changes to software delivery practices
  • Be able to work 1 day per week remotely


A considered Lead Ruby developer will have:

  • Experience working directly with product teams
  • A strong understanding or Ruby and Ruby on Rails
  • Be an advocate for TDD and Agile methodologies
  • Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases
  • An understanding of working with cloud platforms (AWS in particular)
  • Used tools such as Ansible and Terraform
  • Worked previously in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience pair programming
  • Great OOP design skills
