Chief Strategy Officer - Arvato Bertelsmann
The Client
Arvato Bertelsmann is a global services company, headquartered in Gütersloh, Germany with distributed teams acrtoss Europe and the United States. Its services include customer support, information technology, logistics, and finance.
The history of Arvato goes back to the printing and industry services division of Bertelsmann; the current name was introduced in 1999. With an annual £4 bn. turnover, there are 30,000 employees in nearly 30 countries, who work to develop and implement innovative solutions for business customers.
The Challenge
Arvato were looking for a full eCommerce platform update. They required urgent help to identify and secure user experience resource to ensure the platform had the very best user experience.
They hadn’t previously hired user experience resource into this team and required consulting to help them understand and identify the right type of freelance resource to help deliver the project effectively.
The hiring manager and key project stakeholders were based in the United States, requiring close coordination across time zones
Consortia's UX recruitment team worked closely with Arvato’s European teams and US-based leadership to secure the right freelance expertise quickly. This involved providing detailed market reports to help Arvato hone its requirements for the German market, and we used our relationship-driven talent pool and availability tracker to identify user experience professionals who were best suited, perfectly located and also available to start immediately.
The Result
Within a week, Consortia had briefed on the position, provided a high-quality shortlist and secured the UX talent for the project.
Head of UX, Ryan Ollerenshaw, submitted three candidates, all of whom went through to interview stage and all progressed to final interview. This resulted in two offers being sent.
The ratios were impressive: 3 candidates: 3 interviews and 2 placements: 2 acceptances.
The contractors proved to be so successful with Arvato that they were extended on numerous occasions and spent over 18 months on the project, with one of the contractors converting to a permanent position after this time.
